Block Print Christmas Cards

Last year I found some of the kids linoleum blocks for making prints, and used some wood carving tools to carve a two part design.  The holly leaves are to be printed first in green and then the berries and words, “Born a King” in red.  The design was transferred by carbon paper to the block.  The words had to be reversed of course, so I copied them with tracing paper while taped backwards to a window.  The whole issue of alignment is tricky.  I ended up with trial and error, using a carvers “bench hook” to hold the blocks secure, and penciling in a mark on the block for aligning the card.  Once the card is placed on the inky surface it is stable, and then I rubbed it with a piece of dowel to get a darker print.  This was a first attempt, but I think it will appear again.
